Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas vs The Westin Seoul Parnas: Which Luxury Hotel Is Better?
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas and The Westin Seoul Parnas are both luxury hotels connected to COEX in Gangnam. On a map, they look close enough to be interchangeable. In practice, they offer noticeably different rooms, breakfasts, lounges, wellness facilities and levels of convenience.
After staying at both, my conclusion is simple:
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas is the better hotel overall. The Westin Seoul Parnas can be the better booking in the real world.
That distinction matters. One hotel can win the comparison while the other wins the reservation, especially once nightly rates and loyalty benefits enter the room and begin rearranging the furniture.

Quick Verdict
Choose Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas when:
- rates are similar;
- room size and a stronger sense of luxury matter most;
- you want a quieter executive lounge;
- Samseong Station, Hyundai Department Store and southern COEX are important;
- polished, mature service is a priority.
Choose The Westin Seoul Parnas when:
- it is meaningfully cheaper;
- you prefer a newer room and a better bed;
- restaurant breakfast and fitness facilities matter more;
- you are an eligible Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member or above.
For comparable room-only rates, I would normally pay around KRW 40,000 to KRW 70,000 more for Grand InterContinental. Once the difference approaches KRW 100,000, The Westin becomes much easier to justify.
If neither hotel clearly fits your budget or itinerary, my guide to the best hotels in Gangnam, Seoul compares additional options around COEX, Yeoksam, Apgujeong, Gangnam Station and southern Seoul.

Rooms: Traditional Luxury or Modern Comfort?
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas offers the more impressive guest room. Its rooms feel generous by Seoul standards, with more space to move around and a stronger sense of luxury. The design is more dramatic, the seating areas feel substantial, and the room delivers a clearer sense of occasion.
The Westin Seoul Parnas takes a more contemporary approach. Its rooms feel newer, cleaner and more restrained. The overall effect is fresh rather than grand. Most importantly, I preferred the bed at The Westin. Westin has spent decades treating sleep as a brand asset, and this is one corporate strategy that is difficult to criticise while horizontal.

If prices are close, I would choose Grand InterContinental for the additional space and more convincing luxury. Travellers who care more about a modern atmosphere and bed comfort may prefer The Westin.

Breakfast: The Westin Wins the Restaurant, Grand Wins the Lounge
The breakfast result depends on where you eat.
At the main restaurants, ON:TABLE at The Westin Seoul Parnas offered the better breakfast during my stay. The selection was broader, there were more live-cooking options, and the meal felt more varied overall. For a standard-room booking with breakfast included, The Westin would be my choice.

The result reverses for club guests. Breakfast in the Grand InterContinental Club Lounge was unusually extensive and felt much closer to a full restaurant breakfast than the restrained lounge spreads found at many hotels.
A lounge breakfast is often where optimism meets boiled eggs. This one was considerably more ambitious.

Executive Lounges: Quality Versus Usability
Both hotels served good food in their executive lounges, but the experience was not equally relaxing.
Grand InterContinental’s Club Lounge felt calmer, more spacious and easier to use. Finding a seat was less difficult, service felt composed, and the lounge worked as an actual lounge rather than a restaurant that happened to contain several laptops.
During my stay, afternoon tea was served on a tiered stand. Lounge offerings can change, so this should be treated as a description of my visit rather than a promise carved into the building.

The Westin’s lounge impressed me with the quality of its evening food. The problem was popularity. Marriott Bonvoy has many elite members, and a new Westin in Seoul was never likely to remain a secret for long.
At busy times, queues and heavy crowds reduced the practical value of the lounge. The evening spread may have been stronger as food, but Grand InterContinental wins the category because a lounge should also be somewhere you can sit down without developing a seating strategy.

Wellness: The Westin Has the Better Gym, Grand Has the Larger Pool
The Westin Seoul Parnas has the stronger overall wellness proposition for a short stay. Its fitness centre is newer, more attractive and better equipped. Views toward Bongeunsa Temple also give the space a distinctive sense of place.
It feels like part of the hotel’s identity rather than a room included because five-star hotels are expected to own treadmills.

Grand InterContinental has the larger swimming pool. Its indoor main pool measures 25 metres by 7 metres, making it the more practical choice for actual lap swimming. The physical experience is more functional than theatrical, although the official photograph is doing its very best to challenge that description.

I did not use the sauna at either hotel, so I will not pretend that standing near one granted me comparative expertise.
For travellers focused on exercise and a contemporary wellness environment, I would choose The Westin. For swimmers, Grand InterContinental has the clear advantage.
Overall wellness winner: The Westin Seoul Parnas
Service: Experience Matters, but Timing Matters Too
Service was one of the clearest differences during my stays. Grand InterContinental felt significantly more mature and polished, with confident communication and consistently professional interactions.
I visited The Westin shortly after it opened, when many employees were still new to the property. Some team members were not yet fully familiar with hotel procedures or guest-benefit policies, occasionally resulting in unclear explanations and an uneven experience.
This should not be treated as a permanent weakness. New hotels need time for teams and routines to settle. My comparison reflects the experience at the time of my stay, not a lifetime sentence.
Even with that qualification, Grand InterContinental was the stronger hotel for service.
Service winner: Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas
Location: Both Are Connected to COEX, but Not Equally Conveniently
This is the category most likely to surprise first-time visitors.
Both hotels are attached to COEX, but they sit near opposite ends of a very large development. A connection to COEX is useful. It is not teleportation.
Grand InterContinental occupies the more convenient southern side. It offers easier access to Samseong Station on Line 2, Hyundai Department Store, Parnas Mall and the busier parts of COEX Mall. Walking routes are generally shorter and more intuitive, with more restaurants and shops nearby.
The Westin is connected to the quieter northern side. Bongeunsa Station is available, but it is not directly beside the hotel. Reaching Hyundai Department Store or the southern retail areas requires a longer indoor walk.
The route becomes manageable once learned, which is also true of several airport terminals and most tax systems.

For most leisure and business travellers using COEX, Grand InterContinental has the better location.

Pricing and Loyalty Benefits
The Westin Seoul Parnas is often the less expensive option, although the gap varies considerably by date and rate conditions.
When I checked a selection of August 2026 stays in July 2026, The Westin was generally around KRW 40,000 to KRW 70,000 cheaper per night for comparable entry-level rooms. This is a practical range rather than a scientific law of hotel pricing. Revenue-management systems prefer drama to consistency.
For a guest without meaningful elite benefits, that difference would not normally be enough for me to give up Grand InterContinental’s larger room, stronger location, quieter lounge and more polished service.
Once the gap approaches KRW 100,000, however, The Westin becomes much easier to justify.
The calculation changes substantially for loyalty members.
IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status does not automatically provide complimentary breakfast or Club InterContinental access. A shiny status card does not make breakfast appear through confidence alone.
Eligible Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above may receive lounge access and complimentary breakfast at participating properties. At The Westin Seoul Parnas, that can make the effective value difference much larger than the room-rate gap alone suggests. Guests should confirm the current property-specific benefit before booking.
| Traveller type | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| No elite status, similar rates | Grand InterContinental | Better overall hotel experience |
| Westin around KRW 100,000 cheaper | The Westin | Price gap becomes difficult to ignore |
| Eligible Marriott Platinum Elite or above | Often The Westin | Lounge and breakfast strengthen the value |
| Paying directly for club access | Grand InterContinental | Better lounge usability and club breakfast |
| Fitness-focused stay | The Westin | Better gym and newer wellness environment |
| Samseong Station and southern COEX | Grand InterContinental | More convenient location |
Which Hotel Would I Book?
In a vacuum, I would choose Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas. It offers the larger and more luxurious room, the better executive lounge, more polished service and the more convenient location within COEX.
In the real world, I would sometimes book The Westin Seoul Parnas. It has the better bed, the better restaurant breakfast, the stronger fitness centre and often the lower price. For an eligible Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member receiving breakfast and lounge access, it can become the more rational reservation.
That is the final distinction:
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas is the hotel I would choose in a vacuum. The Westin Seoul Parnas is the hotel I would sometimes book in the real world.
Hotel comparisons rarely end with the dramatic defeat of one property. More often, they end with a rate calendar, a loyalty account and the quiet suspicion that breakfast has become an accounting discipline.
