GRAVITY vs Courtyard Pangyo: Which Marriott Should You Choose?

There is one thing worth clearing up before comparing GRAVITY Josun Seoul Pangyo and Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Pangyo.

Neither hotel is actually in Seoul.

Both are in Pangyo, a major business district in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, south of the capital. If your trip is mainly about sightseeing in central Seoul, I would not choose either hotel simply because “Seoul” appears in the name.

If you actually need to stay in Pangyo, however, these are two of the most obvious Marriott options in the area.

I have stayed at GRAVITY four times and Courtyard Pangyo twice, and despite being geographically close, they work surprisingly differently.

My ratings are almost identical:

  • GRAVITY Josun Seoul Pangyo: 8.0/10
  • Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Pangyo: 7.9/10

That 0.1-point gap does not mean everyone should choose GRAVITY.

The better hotel depends much more on why you are staying in Pangyo.

If you want the full stay-by-stay details first, read my GRAVITY review and Courtyard Seoul Pangyo review.

The simplest summary is this:

GRAVITY is the better leisure hotel. Courtyard is the better Bonvoy elite hotel.

Location: GRAVITY Is Easier for a Leisure Stay

The two hotels are close enough that neither fundamentally changes your Pangyo itinerary, but the difference becomes noticeable once you start walking.

GRAVITY is easier for Pangyo Station and Hyundai Department Store Pangyo. The department store matters more than it might sound: restaurants, cafés, shopping and food halls effectively become part of the staycation.

Courtyard is still within walking distance of Pangyo Station, but I would allow around ten minutes in practice. There are road crossings along the way, so it feels less connected than the map initially suggests.

Where Courtyard makes more sense is Pangyo Techno Valley. It feels naturally positioned for office visits and business travel.

That difference mirrors the personality of the hotels themselves.

Courtyard Seoul Pangyo feels naturally oriented toward Pangyo Techno Valley and business travel.

Atmosphere: Family Staycation vs Business Hotel

This is based on my own stays rather than official guest statistics, but the guest mix has consistently felt different.

GRAVITY tends to attract more families with children, particularly on weekends and holidays. The indoor pool is an obvious reason, and the newer-feeling facilities make the hotel easier to use as a short staycation destination.

Courtyard feels more adult and business-oriented.

Its defining extra facility is not a pool but an Executive Lounge, and the evening happy hour naturally attracts adult guests and business travelers. Marriott currently states that guests under 18 are not permitted during happy hour.

Neither atmosphere is inherently better.

They simply serve different purposes.

Rooms: Pay for the Right Room at GRAVITY

My booking strategy is completely different between these two hotels.

At GRAVITY, I have learned not to rely on elite upgrades.

The current official specifications put GRAVITY’s Business Deluxe at 25.05 m² and the Premier Deluxe at 38.06 m². When I stayed with my mother, that extra space was worth paying for directly.

The bedding was also excellent — good enough that my mother specifically wanted to return.

The Premier Deluxe is the room category I prefer at GRAVITY, especially when traveling with family.

At Courtyard, my elite status has worked better.

On both of my stays, I received an upgrade. Most recently, my standard twin reservation became a Larger Guest Room before arrival.

The room was spacious enough for two adults, with a small sitting area and a bathtub.

It is not a particularly exciting design.

It is comfortable, predictable and practical.

Sometimes boring works.

Bonvoy Elite Benefits: Courtyard Has the Clearer Advantage

This is the biggest difference between the two properties.

GRAVITY does not have an Executive Lounge, and across several stays I have never found it particularly generous with room upgrades.

I now book the room and package I actually want rather than waiting for my Titanium status to improve the stay.

Courtyard is almost the opposite.

Marriott currently lists complimentary Executive Lounge access for Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite members plus one guest. All-day snacks and beverages are listed from 06:00 to 24:00, with evening happy hour from 17:30 to 19:30 and breakfast served at MoMo Café.

On my latest stay, the happy-hour spread included Mongolian beef, pasta, stir-fried noodles, salads, fruit and smaller cold items.

It was enough for a light dinner.

The drinks selection included red, white and sparkling wine, beer and several spirits and liqueurs.

Courtyard’s Executive Lounge offers enough food during happy hour for a light evening meal.

For someone who actually uses Bonvoy elite benefits, that is meaningful value.

GRAVITY is better at feeding you through its restaurants.

Courtyard is better at making your elite status useful.

Pool and Fitness: GRAVITY Is Better for a Staycation

This category is much simpler.

GRAVITY currently lists an indoor swimming pool among its complimentary on-site facilities.

Marriott’s current on-site recreation information for Courtyard lists its fitness center but does not list a hotel pool.

The GRAVITY pool is attractive and warm, although it is more family-friendly than a serious lap pool. I tend to use it early in the morning before it becomes busy.

The indoor pool is one of GRAVITY’s clearest advantages for families and leisure stays.

GRAVITY’s fitness center is also one of the hotel’s better facilities. It is not huge, but I have exercised there several times and found the equipment consistently good and well maintained.

Marriott currently describes Courtyard’s fitness center as newly renovated, with a new stretching area, more equipment and a park view. In person, the space still feels relatively compact to me.

If I intended to spend significant time at the hotel itself, GRAVITY would be my choice.

Breakfast and Food: Both Are Good, in Different Ways

Food is one category where both hotels perform well.

GRAVITY benefits from being part of Josun Hotels & Resorts.

Across several visits, I have enjoyed breakfast at ANDISH, dinner at ZEROVITY, and desserts from Josun Deli. All three remain part of GRAVITY’s current dining lineup. The French toast at ANDISH is a personal favorite, and even the mango cake and mango bingsu have left good impressions.

The French toast at ANDISH is one of the breakfast items I consistently enjoy at GRAVITY.

Courtyard’s strongest food experience is MoMo Café breakfast.

The buffet is larger and broader than I expect from many Courtyards, with a strong Korean selection, breads and pastries, Western dishes, desserts and ice cream.

And, importantly, pork kimchi stew.

I liked it during my first stay in 2021 and looked for it again in 2026.

MoMo Café offers the broader breakfast buffet, with a particularly solid Korean selection.

If I were choosing based on the overall hotel F&B operation, I would lean toward GRAVITY.

If I were asking which hotel gives a Bonvoy elite member a strong included breakfast plus lounge access, Courtyard becomes much more attractive.

Service: Neither Hotel Is the Main Reason I Return

This may be their most unexpected similarity.

Service is not the defining strength of either hotel in my experience.

My first GRAVITY stay in 2021 involved several housekeeping problems and multiple room changes. More recent visits have been much smoother, but I still do not return because I expect exceptional hospitality.

At Courtyard, my latest stay had a different problem.

The front desk told me that holiday happy hour would run in two sessions and instructed me to arrive for the second seating at 7:10 PM.

When I arrived, the lounge told me there was only one session and it would end at 7:30.

The hotel eventually handled the problem reasonably by allowing me to take lounge food back to the room and providing a bottle of sparkling wine.

The recovery was decent.

The process of getting there was less impressive.

Courtyard gives me stronger elite benefits, but the service delivery can feel less polished than those benefits suggest.

Which Pangyo Marriott Should You Choose?

I would make the decision like this.

Choose GRAVITY Josun Seoul Pangyo if:

  • you are traveling with children;
  • you want an indoor pool;
  • you care about fitness facilities;
  • you want easier access to Pangyo Station and Hyundai Department Store;
  • you are planning more of a weekend staycation;
  • you are willing to book the larger room you actually want.

Choose Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Pangyo if:

  • you are traveling for business;
  • you hold Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium or Ambassador Elite status;
  • you value an Executive Lounge and happy hour;
  • breakfast is important to you;
  • you want elite status to produce tangible benefits;
  • you are traveling as one or two adults rather than planning a family staycation.

Final Thoughts

The funny thing about this comparison is that I rate the two hotels almost exactly the same.

GRAVITY: 8.0/10.
Courtyard: 7.9/10.

But those scores come from very different strengths.

GRAVITY is the more convincing staycation hotel. Its pool, stronger fitness facilities, newer feel and convenient access to Hyundai Department Store give you more ways to fill the day.

Courtyard is the more convincing business and Bonvoy elite hotel. Its Executive Lounge, happy hour, breakfast and better upgrade experiences make an otherwise conventional Courtyard surprisingly useful.

Neither is really a Seoul hotel.

Neither is perfect.

But once you know why you are going to Pangyo, the choice becomes fairly straightforward. For the detailed stay reports, see the full GRAVITY review and Courtyard review.
