Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park Review: Suite, Lounge and Airport Access

I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Botanic Park for one night in February 2021.
My expectations were not especially ambitious.
I had booked a standard room at a Courtyard in Magok, an area of western Seoul better known for offices and research campuses than international tourism.
Then I changed rooms.
What began as a fairly ordinary Courtyard stay turned into something much more memorable after the hotel moved me into a Courtyard Suite overlooking Seoul Botanic Park.
The suite had a separate living room and bedroom, wood flooring, a spacious bathroom with both a bathtub and separate shower, and an LG Styler in the wardrobe.
In other words, almost everything became considerably nicer once I stopped occupying the room I had actually booked.
That distinction matters. My 8.2/10 rating reflects the stay I actually had, including the substantial suite upgrade. Had I remained in the standard room, I would probably have rated the hotel lower.
Still, the property has advantages that do not depend on an upgrade: excellent Gimpo Airport and AREX access, Seoul Botanic Park immediately outside, and a location that works particularly well for Magok business trips.
Quick Verdict: Is Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park Worth It?
Yes, particularly for Gimpo Airport, Magok business trips or travelers who prefer a quieter western-Seoul base.
The hotel is near Magongnaru Station, served by both Seoul Subway Line 9 and AREX. Marriott currently highlights the location as one AREX stop from Gimpo Airport, two stops from Hongdae and four stops from Seoul Station.
For an international visitor, that transport network may be more important than the Courtyard branding itself.
- Best for an early or late Gimpo Airport flight
- Useful for business in Magok, LG Science Park and western Seoul
- Easy AREX access toward Hongdae and Seoul Station
- A quieter setting beside Seoul Botanic Park rather than dense downtown streets
For a short first trip focused heavily on palaces, Myeongdong and Jongno, I would still prefer a more central base. My Courtyard Seoul Myeongdong review covers a more central Courtyard option, while RYSE Hotel Seoul is a much stronger choice if Hongdae itself is the destination rather than simply somewhere you want to reach by train.
The Standard Room Was Fine. Then Things Improved.
My original room was perfectly acceptable. It had a bathtub, a clean contemporary design and the general level of comfort I would expect from a Courtyard.
There was one problem: it was directly in front of the elevator.
I strongly dislike rooms immediately beside elevators, so I contacted the hotel and asked whether another room might be available.
The answer turned out to be considerably better than expected.
2026 Update: The Old Lounge Is Gone
This is one area where a five-year-old review needs a large warning label.
During my February 2021 stay, the 15th floor operated as a lounge for eligible guests, with refreshments and an evening service. That is historical information.
Today, Marriott no longer presents the space as an Executive Lounge. Its current dining lineup lists Garden Kitchen and VINYARD15, with VINYARD15 operating on the 15th floor as a rooftop wine bar.
So anyone booking today should not use my old lounge photos as evidence of current Marriott Bonvoy lounge benefits. They are here because they were part of my actual stay.
Hotel reviews age. Sometimes the furniture changes. Sometimes the entire lounge becomes a wine bar.
A Replacement Key, Delivered by Robot
While I was waiting, my replacement room key arrived.
Not with a staff member.
With a robot.
This was entertaining in 2021, and surprisingly it is still relevant. Marriott still highlights its AI service robots for delivering essential items to guest rooms.
The robot arrived with my new key. Technology had spoken. I was moving upstairs.
Courtyard Suite: The Reason My Rating Is 8.2
The replacement room was a Courtyard Suite, and this was where the stay changed completely.
The living room and bedroom were genuinely separated, which immediately made the accommodation feel more substantial. I also liked the wood flooring. Hotel carpet is perfectly functional; wood simply feels more residential.
The suite overlooked Seoul Botanic Park, giving the room a far more open outlook than I expected in Magok.
The park was fairly bare in February. Winter does not provide botanical gardens with their strongest marketing material.
But the open space still made the view pleasant.
A Surprisingly Good Bathroom
The bathroom was another major upgrade over what I had expected from a Courtyard.
There was a proper bathtub and a separate shower. It was spacious, clean and closer to what I would expect from an upscale full-service hotel than from the average midscale business property.
The suite also had another practical feature that remains part of the current product: an LG Styler.
Marriott currently states that LG Styler units are standard in its suites. For a one-night stay, this was mostly a pleasant novelty. For a business traveler spending several days in Seoul, it becomes much more useful.
The 2021 Happy Hour: Definitely Historical
My stay took place during the pandemic, so evening lounge service worked rather differently from a normal hotel happy hour. Food could be taken back to the room in a large takeaway container.
The takeaway system was actually convenient. The lounge itself was not: it became extraordinarily crowded during the evening.
That belonged to a very specific moment in 2021, when pandemic restrictions and hotel promotions produced conditions that are not useful for judging the property today.
The important current fact is simple: there is no longer a traditional Executive Lounge operating in the same form. VINYARD15 now fills the 15th-floor dining role instead.
Breakfast at Garden Kitchen
The next morning I went down early for breakfast. That was fortunate. After the previous evening’s crowd, an almost empty restaurant felt luxurious.
Breakfast was good without being a major reason to choose the hotel. There was enough variety for a proper buffet breakfast, and even the watermelon was better than I expected in February.
That is the sort of achievement I am willing to recognize.
Today, breakfast remains at Garden Kitchen, the hotel’s international all-day restaurant. Marriott currently lists Garden Kitchen as open from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM; the restaurant also underwent a short renovation in early 2026.
So the photograph above should be treated as my 2021 experience rather than a precise picture of the current buffet.
Location: Better for Foreign Visitors Than It First Appears
Magok is not central Seoul, and for some travelers that is a disadvantage.
But this particular part of Magok is extremely well connected. Magongnaru gives you both Line 9 and AREX, while Gimpo Airport is one AREX stop away. Hongdae is two stops away and Seoul Station four, according to Marriott’s current transport guidance.
The hotel also sits beside Seoul Botanic Park, which gives the area much more breathing room than most Seoul business districts.
Current on-site facilities remain business-focused rather than resort-like: Marriott lists a complimentary fitness center, while no swimming pool is listed.
For an overnight transit stay, Magok business trip or trip combining Seoul with domestic flights from Gimpo, the location is genuinely strong.
Other Marriott Options in Western Seoul
If Magok is not essential, there are several useful Marriott alternatives farther east in western Seoul.
- The Link Seoul — newer rooms, free guest laundry and stronger long-stay value around Sindorim and Guro.
- Four Points Seoul Guro — a simpler business hotel near Guro Digital Complex that makes the most sense when the rate is low.
- RYSE Hotel Seoul — a much better base if your trip revolves around Hongdae nightlife, restaurants and shopping rather than airport convenience.
Final Verdict: 8.2/10
Courtyard Seoul Botanic Park is difficult for me to score without acknowledging the upgrade.
The standard room I originally received was fine.
The Courtyard Suite was much better.
A separate living room, park view, wood floors, large bathroom, bathtub, separate shower and LG Styler transformed what would probably have been a competent but forgettable Courtyard stay.
The hotel also has lasting advantages that remain relevant today: excellent Gimpo Airport access, AREX connections toward Hongdae and Seoul Station, and Seoul Botanic Park immediately outside.
But several elements of my 2021 stay — most notably the lounge and happy hour — no longer exist in the same form.
My rating is therefore 8.2/10. It reflects the room I actually slept in. Had I remained in the standard room I originally booked, the number would probably begin with a seven.
Sometimes elite upgrades do more than improve a stay.
They improve the review.
